Bio

 

Amrit K. Gahunia has been teaching at the University of Pennsylvania since 1986 when she started teaching Punjabi courses in the South Asia Studies department.  Over the years at Penn, she has also taught several sections of Hindi classes.  Before coming to the University of Pennsylvania, she taught Hindi and Sanskrit in India after completing her MPhil. in Hindi from Punjab University.   She is a certified Startalk Language program instructor and was an instrumental part of the 2010 Penn Hindi Startalk program.  Her academic interests include developing Punjabi learning resources and the role of women in South Asian literature.  She has developed instructional material for beginning and intermediate level Punjabi students.  Furthermore, she has experience in translation work, editing and book reviews for various private publishers and organizations.  She also serves as an advisor for the Penn Sikh Organization and is active in variety of cultural organizations.
