Research and Teaching Interests:
Babu Suthar is a linguist, a creative writer and a literary theoretician. As a linguist, he is interested in South Asian Linguistics, Indo-Aryan linguistics and typological linguistics; as a creative writer, he writes novels, poems and short stories in Gujarati, which is his mother tongue and as a literary theoretician, he is interested in contemporary literary theories and South Asian regional literatures. Suthar has published many articles in linguistics and literary theories. He has also compiled a Gujarati-English learner's dictionary. He teaches courses on Gujarati language and culture.

Awards and Fellowships:
I was awarded a two years Fellowship in 1995 for Creative writing (Rs. 36,000) by the Department of Culture, India for writing a novel (fairy tale) "Ek hato chokro" (Once there was a boy) for the children belonging to the 10-14 years age group.*

Seminars Conferences and Talks:
One week capsule course on "Contemporary Literary Theories" in M. S. University, Baroda; Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar; Mumbai University, Mumbai; and S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai, Summer 2006.
Presented papers in about ten national and regional seminars and conferences and given about ten talks on various topics in linguistics, literary theory and philosophy in various academic institutions in India. Gave course on "Contemporary Literary Theory" as a Visiting Faculty in Mumbai University and S.N.D.T. University, Mumbai; M.S.University of Baroda, Baroda and Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar in Summer 2006. I am also an editor of a quarterly ‘Sandhi’ which publishes creative and non-creative writings in Gujarati and English. It is published by US Bharat Foundation Inc., Cleveland, OH.
