South Asia Studies' Sandhya Jetty Named Fulbright Scholar

Sandhya Jetty of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to India in economic development from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Jetty will be conducting as part of a project to research economic development programs for women.

Sandhya Jetty is a graduating senior in Wharton from Sacramento, California. She is a Joseph Wharton Scholar and Benjamin Franklin Scholar studying Finance and minoring in South Asia Studies. She previously completed research projects on 3D printing technology through the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research and multi-purpose cooperatives in India through the C.U. in India program, and spoke about her 3D printing research at TEDxPenn in 2013. Sandhya hopes to combine her interests in business, technology, and gender & development studies through her research project. Through her research project, she will be studying microenterprise development programs for women in India, and analyze if these entrepreneurship programs can be designed to be more effective by addressing strategic as well as practical gender needs.  Upon completing her Fulbright grant, Sandhya will return to California to work as an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company. She is very excited for the opportunity and is especially thankful to her professors and mentors Joshua Pien, Raili Roy, Zach Simkin, Deborah Small, and Annie Wang for their support.
