1. Which language and what level are you studying?

I am a sophomore studying Advanced Hindi through the FLAS fellowship. FLAS is a year-long, language-centered scholarship that helps with tuition and living expenses for area studies students.

2. What have you enjoyed most about the learning experience?

Studying Hindi through FLAS has been an amazing opportunity to develop oral and written language skills, meet other students with similar interests and study abroad experiences, and form a close relationship with my Hindi teacher, Josh Pien.

3. How do you think that learning the language will help you in the future?

After graduating from Penn, I plan on applying to graduate school with a focus on education and South Asia. Having a strong foundation in Hindi will be essential for conducting research and teaching in India.

4. Anything that you would say to encourage other to apply for the fellowships?

I encourage anyone studying a South Asian language to apply for the FLAS fellowship. To put it simply, you are getting paid to study something you love!
